Project Description: EVC was approached by a major Czech locomotive manufacturer to submit a proposal for the development and supply of a traction battery for a hybrid diesel-battery shunting locomotive project. The customer's motivation is to verify the technical and operational parameters of the hybrid battery solution, which can be expected to be widely used in the market in the future due to the tightening requirements for ecology and economy of locomotive operation. EVC's design and manufacturing staff used knowledge from electric bus drive design to design a high-capacity battery based on customer input. The locomotive will operate in test runs for individual CZ LOKO customers in 2019-2021. The drive arrangement of the hybrid locomotive allows the diesel generator to be replaced by another battery in the future and thus a fully battery-powered shunting locomotive to be introduced in the future.
